Russia, Jehovah’s Witnesses harassed on 101st anniversary of Bolshevik revolution – JWnews

Searches in approximately 20 apartments and houses where citizens suspected of professing the religion of Jehovah’s Witnesses live were conducted on 7 November 2018, beginning at 5:00 a.m. They were sanctioned by the central district court of the city of Krasnoyarsk within the framework of a criminal case against Andrei Stupnikov, who was arrested on 3 July 2018 on a charge of “planning the activity of an extremist organization (with a reference to the decision of the Russian Supreme Court on liquidation of all 396 registered organizations of Jehovah’s Witnesses).

Russia, Mass searches of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Novosibirsk – JWnews

On November 8, 2018, searches were carried out in Novosibirsk at least in 10 houses of civilians who were suspected in the joint confession of the religion of Jehovah’s Witnesses. 64-year-old Yury Prokopievich Savelyev was arrested. By decision of Maria Shishkina, a judge of the Central District Court of Novosibirsk, he was sent to the SIZO until January 7, 2019.

Replacement approved for iconic Watchtower sign in Brooklyn Heights – JWnews

The city’s Board of Standards and Appeals voted on Thursday to allow for a replacement of the iconic ‘Watchtower’ sign in Brooklyn Heights, which was taken down last December. The 15-foot-tall red sign had sat atop the building, which served as the headquarters for the Jehovah’s Witnesses, for nearly 50 years. The religious group sold the site at 25-30 Columbia Heights to the Columbia Heights Associates in 2016 and soon after the letters were removed, leaving its framework intact.

One police officer, Vuqar Mammadov, hit a female Jehovah’s Witness, pulled her hair and threatened her with a sexual assault.

Two former female Jehovah’s Witness prisoners of conscience, Irina Zakharchenko and Valida Jabrayilova, were imprisoned from February until December 2015 in a “confinement room, a ‘cage’, rather than a cell, in that there was no privacy and everything was exposed to the sight of others”, Jehovah’s Witnesses told Forum 18. “The smell of sewage in this ‘cage’ was suffocating.”

FYI, Greece to take Orthodox Church off its payroll – JWnews

Greece and its powerful Orthodox Church tentatively agreed on Tuesday to remove some 10,000 priests and auxiliary staff from the state payroll, in a deal that could pave the way for a clearer distinction between church and state.

Jehovah’s Witnesses murdered, another seriously injured in Guatemala – JWnews

The two were missionaries for the Jehovah’s Witnesses religious group who had been working in the Peten region for several years. They were attacked at their house early Sunday by a man under the influence of alcohol or drugs, local media reports said.
